Cat Urine Carpet Cleaning in Colorado: 4 Real Jobs

October 27, 2026•6 min read

Short answer: Cat urine smell comes out of carpet when you find all of it first, give an enzyme time to break down the uric acid, and then pull it out with hot water instead of covering it with fragrance. That's how I handle cat urine at Colorado Choice Carpet Cleaning. I'm Mark, the owner, and I've cleaned carpet across the Denver Metro for over 23 years. Pet treatment is $45 per room, and every spot treated with it is covered by my 30-day pet stain and odor guarantee.

Below are four real cat jobs from my crew, from Thornton down to Castle Pines, with what we found, what we did and what each one cost.

Why cat urine smell hangs on in carpet

A photorealistic, high-resolution image of a modern, minimalist workspace featuring a clean desk setup with a closed laptop and an empty, clear desk surface—no digital devices or images visible. The scene conveys a sense of simplicity and organization, with subtle office elements such as an organized shelf, a potted plant, and soft natural light streaming through a window. The overall atmosphere is professional and efficient, visually representing the concept of removing images for a streamlined, distraction-free workspace suitable for a professional blog post.

Most people only treat the spots they can see. On cat jobs, that's almost never all of it. On a Castle Rock job in Redhawk, the UV light showed contamination running several feet past the visible stain. In Aurora's Conservatory, the same thing: the UV found urine near walls, furniture edges and the base of the stairs where nothing showed.

Here's what keeps the smell coming back:

  • Uric acid crystals. Dried urine leaves crystals that soap and fragrance don't break down. An enzyme does, if you give it time to work.

  • Depth. If urine has only dried on the fiber, an enzyme and hot water extraction can take it out. If it has soaked into the backing and pad, you need sub-surface extraction at that level.

  • Fiber type. On polyester, urine moves down through the pile faster than it spreads sideways, so the problem is often bigger underneath than on top.

  • Colorado winters. Furnace heat reactivates dried urine. I wrote about that in why pet odor comes back in winter in Colorado.

  1. UV inspection first. I map every contaminated zone before any chemical touches the floor, including spots you can't see.

  2. Decide how deep it goes. Topical, saturated into the backing, or into the pad. That decides the method.

  3. Enzyme pre-treatment with a real dwell time. On the Thornton job we let it dwell a full 40 minutes.

  4. Sub-surface flush on the heaviest zones when urine has reached the backing and pad.

  5. Truck-mounted hot water extraction to rinse it all out. Our truckmount runs at 200–230°F.

  6. UV re-inspection before we leave, so you know the flagged zones cleared.

Carpet is dry in 2–4 hours.

4 real cat urine jobs

Thornton, Riverdale: about 100 cat urine stains, same day, $399

Ryan had just retired after 22 years in the Air Force. His family was moving into a Riverdale home on a one-acre lot and found roughly 100 cat urine stains in the basement. His family is allergic to cats. When we checked, the urine had dried on the fiber rather than saturating the pad. We pre-treated every stain with Saiger's Sauce enzyme, let it dwell a full 40 minutes, then extracted with the truckmount. Derek said the stains came up "like butter." We also deep-cleaned the sectional the family inherited and got the cat hair out. All of it, basement and sectional, was $399, done the same day he called. Read the Thornton job.

Castle Rock, Redhawk: eight months of cat urine in four rooms, $299

Doug's son came home from Navy service and moved in with his family and their cat while they waited on a new home build. Over eight months the cat had access to four rooms of nylon carpet. UV showed heavy saturation in all four rooms. Moderate zones got Saiger's P-Lime-Zyme enzyme with full dwell time, then hot water extraction with our Prochem Apex GTX truckmount at 200–230°F. The heaviest zones got a sub-surface flush and extraction at the backing and pad level. We cleared every flagged zone, with no odor left on the UV re-check and no pad replacement. $299. Read the Redhawk job.

Aurora, The Conservatory: two cats and four dogs, whole house, $499

A military nurse on a PCS move had full-house polyester carpet, stairs included, and six pets. The visible staining wasn't severe, but UV found contamination well past it. We put enzyme on every UV-flagged zone, including ones with no visible stain, did a sub-surface flush on the heaviest zones, then truckmount-cleaned the whole house. Every flagged zone cleared without replacing carpet or pad. $499. Read the Conservatory job.

Castle Pines North: cat allergens on move-in day, 8 rooms + 29 steps, $349

A family moved into Castle Pines North from Chicago. The prior owner had cats, the carpet was never cleaned before closing, and they had allergic reactions within hours. They called in the morning and we were on site within 2 hours from our Castle Rock base. We did whole-home truck-mounted hot water extraction at 200°F+, 8 rooms and 29 steps, for $349, so they could rest in their new home that night. Read the Castle Pines North job.

Cat urine carpet cleaning FAQ

Can you get cat urine smell out of carpet for good?

In most homes, yes. I find every zone with UV, let an enzyme break down the uric acid, and extract it with hot water. If the urine has sat long enough to ruin the pad, I'll tell you that before I start, because cleaning the top won't fix it.

Who can get cat urine smell out of carpet in Englewood or Aurora?

I do. Colorado Choice Carpet Cleaning works all over the Denver Metro, including Englewood and Aurora, and the process is the same one you see in the jobs above. Call (720) 730-8055 before noon and I can usually be there the same day.

How long does carpet take to dry after cat urine treatment?

2–4 hours. Keep pets and kids off it until it's fully dry.
